“Rediscover” teaching notes–Majesty

About three years ago I went skiing in the Rocky Mountains. As I was riding up the chair lift at Arapahoe Basin in Colorado, the jagged, rocky majesty of a 14,000 mountain loomed overhead. It was drenched in sunshine and blindingly white with fresh snow. At the time I could not describe how I felt. When I told of my awe-struck wonder at the majesty of enormity, a philosopher-friend asked: "In moments like that, do you feel big or small?"

Coming of the bridge, having 21 miles behind me, and feeling moisture reappear on my forehead and shoulders, I knew that I was going to make it. My feet were pounding, and I could feel my leg muscles begging for shorter and shorter strides. My calves and my heiney were tightening up, but nothing serious. I had walked enough during the "I'm no longer sweating" phase that I was barely winded at all. However, my will had taken a significant blow.
