This month’s challenge is to think about the people where you LIVE. Think about your neighbors. Draw a map of your neighborhood. How many people do you know? How many names do you know? Go up and down the street and write down everything you know about them. Think about the things that made them laugh or the times when they were irritated about something. What are they like? What do they like?
Who are they?
Did God make them? Does God love them? Did God die for them?
The point of +1 is to simply and intentionally get together with people in your life who are seemingly far from God and look for appropriate open doors to engage in a spiritually significant conversation. Our goal here is not to “save” people. It is simply an easy step to move toward inviting people in your life to come and check out what you find meaningful on Sunday mornings.
We recently moved. So “who we live by” is a new process for us. Of our immediate 4 neighbors, I have hung out with one (briefly), met another, wave at the other as he gets his mail, and haven’t even seen the other. So who should I pick for +1? The friendly, the familiar, the waver, or the isolationist?
One of our neighbors (the familiar) has a 20 year old son who happens to be a runner….Here we go! I have met him now and we have swapped emails and are planning to schedule a run this week. I’m sure we will trade race stories (mine wont take long), maybe talk about college life and his classes. I’ll probably get to hear about the neighbors and maybe even some of the unique aspects of our area. I will be listening and praying, wondering how God will end up using me in this young man’s life. I’ll let you know how it goes.
