  • “Great Question”
    Posted April 2nd, 2012
Our next Community Night will be more interactive than ever!  This time, you decide the content.  We wanted to make ourselves available to answer the toughest questions you have.  Questions of doubt, on issues, or perceptions.  Questions of faith, or Faiths, or why the church is the way it is.  Questions of meaning, destiny, and origins.  You come up with the question and we will answer it.  If we don't cover it in Community Night we will in person!  So, what have you always wondered about God, about Life, about death, or about faith.  You can add your question to the comments section of this post.  Please note that our commitment to answer all questions means we will answer it by June 1.  If you don't get an answer right away,...

  • Nicaragua redemption tour
    Posted March 13th, 2012
The team is working hard, and their primary role is the restoration of preexisting wells.  So here they find a village or community that knew life without clean water, and a group in country, international aid team, or government programs wanted to help.  But they installed a well and then it broke.  The people had become accustomed to life with clean water and then it was taken from them.  Imagine the discouragement! Our partner, Living Water, scours the countryside in looking for new drill sites and the opportunity to redeem the good work that was intended at its installation.  WHAT AN AMAZING GOSPEL NARRATIVE!!!  Our team is the agents that hundreds of people will see represent the restorative heart of our Savior.  They will have lived in "Eden&q...

The Chapel Barrington's first mission to bring clean water to those in need will depart Friday night and it is already been life-changing for the participants: As I was describing best practices to engage the villagers, I pointed out the soccer balls translate!  Bring a few extra balls and watch the community come to life around the beautiful game.  I also described the wonderful ministry of sharing the Gospel using color coded beads.  JD Mortimer took those facts and with a little Google-powered help he found a website that makes Soccer balls in the same color code (Yellow, black, red, white, green, yellow for creation, sin, blood, pure heart, growth, and heaven).  When he showed me the ball he was so excited to bring them (and HIM) into the villages.  Hav...

  • Lenten devotional–1 John 1:1-4
    Posted March 1st, 2012
LIFE!!  John was inspired by the life that Jesus lived and he seems to always begin a thought or in this case a letter with the images that help us see the life of Jesus. "the life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life" We simply do not understand the incredible distinction between life and death.  I have buried a few relatives and done a few dozen funerals but the idea of "death" still doesn't haunt me.  I understand the tragedy of death and the finality of death, but I think those understandings don't always lead me tot he preciousness of life.   Life comes from God.  And to see Jesus demonstrate LIFE! in the flesh should help us understand the high stakes of that which leads to death. ...
  • Lenten Devotional–prayer
    Posted February 29th, 2012
I resolved to spend the Lenten season purring over John's 1st letter.  I love the imagery John uses and the descriptions he provides go the life Jesus brings.  Consider some such practice int he season leading up to Good Friday.  My prayer: "Lord Jesus, your life was characterized with unity and intimacy with your Father.  You promise us access to Him by the Spirit.  Thank you for your revealed heart in the pages of Scripture.  I look to Johns letter to see you more clearly, to understand who I am becoming, and to plant your grace, compassion, and love in my heart.  Open me.  Show me your will.  I praise your holy name.  Amen" ...
